I think listening to a child is one the best things ever. Why? For most people it's because they "say the darndest things" and for some it's because kids have a way of telling it like it is. Kids have a way with brutal honesty that adults wish they could still use. A child can say what he wants while receiving smiles and laughs. But for an adult, consequences are suffered for saying things like, "good morning David, you're fat" which to me doesn't quiet seem fair. MY favorite part about listening to a child is the fact that they haven't fully mastered language yet. They often have a bit of trouble conjugating verbs and if a word they don't really know should happen to come up they just insert a made-up word with similar sounds and syllabic content. For example, the other day my friend Sara's 6-year-old son was playing outside in the cold and when he got back into the house he said to her, "mom, remember me never to play outside again!" Yesterday at school, Connor (the aforementioned 6-year-old) was a participant in a food fight involving hotdogs with ketchup. His mother had a talk with him and later Connor was explaining the incident to his father using phrases such as the following: "I throwed it back at him" and "and if we do it again we get aspended from school" How is it possible to reprimand and punish a 6-year-old for doing what 6-year-olds do? I think this would be difficult for any parent, but especially Connor's parents because c'mon man, he's one of the cutest damn things I've ever seen! Look for yourself! And yes ladies, you're in luck...he IS single...
