While the husband and I were in South Padre Island he discovered two television programs - the Sci-Fi Channels Battlestar Galactica and HBOs Deadwood. The husband was a big fan of the original Battlestar back when he was just a little fella so, even though he says this new one isnt quite the same he certainly looks forward to it every week and never misses an episode. Deadwood, however, is another story - he LOVES this show! Unfortunately were not able to get HBO without having to pay an extra $100 per month and for as little as wed watch it, its just not worth it. So we took a look on Netflix and, sure enough, the complete first season was available on DVD so we added all of them to our queue and he pretty much watched them as fast as possible. Its been non-stop Deadwood in my house for quite some time. Sadly hes run out of DVDs so hopefully season two will be available soon. I only partially paid attention to the show while on vacation because it was on at an hour of the night that was very difficult for me to keep my eyes open. I would just snuggle up next to the husband and fall asleep to the sound of men repeatedly yelling out the word cocksucker. Really, thats all they say (so far as I can tell). The over-use of profanity is really quite laughable. I mean, seriously, Im the LAST person to complain about foul language but they use the word cocksucker and variations of the word fuck SO much that its actually distracting! Let me give you an example of how a few lines might go: Greasy Guy In An Ugly Hat: Who do those fucking cocksuckers think they are? You might think Im exaggerating for dramatic effect but I promise you I am not - thats REALLY how EVERY episode goes! Ive seen bits and pieces of a few episodes and outside of the comically gratuitous swearing it actually is pretty interesting. I know it looks like a crappy western but its not so if youre not into westerns, dont let that deter you from checking it out... |
