soccer, seven weeks, and steak

It was brought to my attention earlier today that I havent really made much mention of the husbands obsession with Barclays Premiership. Well, let it be known that he IS obsessed with it - he even gets up at 6am on Saturday mornings just to be able to watch the games live. The Fox Soccer Channel repeats the games all weekend long but he likes to see it live so he gets up early when he should be sleeping in. He, like most fans of a sport, has a favorite team - the husbands is Bolton a.k.a. The Wanderers. I enjoy soccer myself but only become obsessed once every four years for World Cup action. Germany 2006 - wooooo!!! The husbands birthday is seven weeks from today so about a week or so ago I started shopping for a gift for him. He is IMPOSSIBLE to shop for because he hates stuff but this time I had a brilliant idea. I thought I would get him a jersey of his favorite team. Then, as I was shopping I thought, Hey! Hes going to need a new lightweight jacket for the non-winter months soon because the one hes been wearing hes had almost as long as Ive been alive! So I thought perhaps the Wanderers might have a jacket I could purchase thus making the husbands birthday gift both something fun and practical. You know what? They did! So I ordered it, paid the outrageous shipping fees to get it from the England to the U.S., and it arrived today. Well, technically it arrived on Saturday but I was in the shower when the mailman came so I wasnt able to sign for it which meant we had to go pick it up ourselves at the main post office today. Anyway, we get it home and I am sooooooooooo excited to tear it open and check it out because in my mind I have selected the perfect gift. I locked myself in the bedroom and opened the package only to be so disappointed I could have cried. When I took the jacket out of the packaging I discovered that it was not the exact item that I ordered. A perfectly great jacket nonetheless but this one was a half-zip pullover type instead of the full-zip one that I had ordered. I specifically ordered the full-zip believing that the husband didnt like pullover jackets and this belief was based on a conversation we once had about hooded sweatshirts. So there I was alone in the bedroom, not sure if I had a jacket he would even wear, wondering if Id have to send it back, and wondering if I even could send it back seven weeks after receiving it. Without revealing the item or the potential problem to the husband I, as I often do, sought his advice. We agreed that he should open the gift now even though its not his birthday yet. I quickly removed the tags (without damaging them of course) and folded the jacket in such a way that the Bolton logo would be instantly visible and shoved it into an empty shoe box. Hey, I figured the least I could do was give him some type of gift opening experience even if it was extremely lame. The husband took the lid off the box and his face lit up. He unfolded the jacket in order to hold it up and figure out exactly what it was and then said, Why would you think I wouldnt like this? I LOVE THIS! Then he proceeded to tell me how great he thought it was and that it was the perfect gift and then put it on to model it for me: And, because he insists, a close up of just him and the logo: In other news, its that time of year again so you know what to do. My husband had this for dinner. I wonder what well do when he gets home... |
