events, tv, today, and moving

Ive been kinda busy these last few days which explains my lack of updates. The husband and I attended two concerts this week - both of which were really good. The first was a performance by The Assad Brothers and the second was a vocal recital of one of the husbands graduate students. I love the fact that we get to dress up and attend so many events throughout the year. Im one of those women who NEEDS to dress up on a regular basis so thank goodness we get invites to things like university fundraisers in historic mansions or Id surely go insane...either that or the husband would come home to find me in formalwear scrubbing the toilet or doing the dishes. In other exciting news, the husband and I made the cute one very happy yesterday. Her birthday is coming up (the 26th of this month) and, luckily for her, the item we ordered as her birthday gift arrived much earlier than expected - a.k.a. yesterday. The poor thing has been living in her apartment since August with only an old 13" hand-me-down TV that she was able to borrow from my parents for an indefinite amount of time. She doesnt have cable and hasnt been able to justify the expense of a VCR or DVD player so she had mentioned a couple of months ago about how a VCR/DVD combo unit would be really nice. It wouldnt take up a lot of space in her studio apartment and she would at least be able to throw in a movie or something when shes home during the day. With her work schedule, the hours that shes home during the day only give her soaps and childrens programming to choose from so that, as Im sure you can imagine, sucks. As soon as she mentioned this combo jobber I knew thats what we had to get for her so I started my online shopping ritual of checking dozens of websites looking for the best price and reading reviews to make sure I didnt buy something that would suck. As I was shopping I learned that a good quality combo jobber with positive reviews was a little more expensive than I thought and that if I spent just a little more than that we could get her the combo jobber thats attached to a 20" Panasonic TV with virtual surround sound so it was time to ADD TO CART! I was very excited so it was probably a good thing it arrived earlier than expected as Im not so sure I could have kept my mouth shut and we really wanted it to be a surprise for her - boy was it! She knew a package was coming because I had to tell her that much to make sure she would be home (and awake!) to let the UPS guy in. She could hardly contain herself just knowing that she was getting a package for her birthday and that it was something that needed to be delivered directly to her house and that shed be getting it early. So image the excited phone call I got around 11am on Friday when she called to say, YOU BOUGHT ME A TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND IT HAS A VCR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND A DVD PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was all followed by how much she loved it, how much she loved us, how thankful she was, and her saying that we didnt have to do this but that she would still gladly accept the item - lol. In other news, the husband I were able to do about an hours worth of hiking today (I put that in quotes because it was an unexpected detour so we werent exactly dressed for it - I dont normally wear white and carry my large leather handbag when we go out into the woods) for the first time this season as the weather is FINALLY being cooperative - hooray! After that we ended up at the bookstore for a bit and then out to lunch because somebody had a Buy one, get one half off coupon to Mexican Maya burning a hole in his pocket - mmmmm, quesadilla! Outside of that theres not too much going on. There are a few more concerts and events between now and the end of school (a.k.a. May 6th) and after that itll be time to PACK because WE ARE FINALLY MOVING! As much as packing and moving totally sucks I really dont think Ill mind so much this time because were long overdue for getting out of this place. Im really excited to finally have a large space thats OURS (the husband lived here for a year before I moved in so sometimes it still feels like Ive invaded his space) and to have multiple floors and so many rooms to decorate. Ahhhhh, I cant wait... |
