So yesterday we had a woman from a moving company come over to evaluate our stuff and give us an estimate. She went through everything in the house and explained how everything would work and that it costs $106 per hour for two movers and a truck. She told us shed call us back no later than today with the estimate and to confirm the pick up date/time. We assumed thered not be a problem and heres why... When the husband moved into this space four years ago with the exact same furniture that is still sitting in here it took maybe 90 minutes (more like an hour, but Ill be generous) start to finish and cost about $300. Granted he only moved from mile away and this time itll be a whopping six, but still, we assumed that it would take about 3 hours at the absolute most. Why? Well, the only large items I brought over here when I moved in that need to go with us when we leave here are a La-Z-Boy recliner, filing cabinet, and a TV so how much extra time could it really take to grab those 3 items plus an extra couple of boxes of clothes and kitchen items? We sure found out when said woman called us back just an hour after leaving to tell us that it would take EIGHT HOURS and cost over EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS! Bwah ha ha!!! The husband told her no thanks and that wed be using the services of another company. After he hung up with her we couldnt stop laughing! I mean seriously, the furniture that were having moved over there probably isnt even WORTH $800 and well be replacing all of it within a couple of months anyway. Besides, its only 6 miles and Im pretty sure I could pack up and move all of this stuff by myself on FOOT in less than 8 hours - HA! Cmon, who were they going to send over here to move our stuff? An old woman and a SNAIL? And were they planning on using a moped instead of a moving truck? How could they POSSIBLY think it would take EIGHT HOURS?!? I made the husband call her back to find out how she came up with 8 hours and she said, well, I just spoke to my supervisor (yeah right) and he says they can probably do it in 6... Still, SIX HOURS?!? I dont mean to sound nave about the expenses of moving, but based on the husbands last move, I know it can be done in significantly less than 8 hours...can you believe that? EIGHT HOURS?!? HAHAH! Were having moving company #2 come over today to give an estimate but Ill be up front with him before he starts looking at anything. Ill tell him straight up that if hes gonna tell me itll take EIGHT HOURS that he can save himself the time and trouble and just get back in his car. Hell be here in about 3 hours and Ill be sure to let you know what he says... |
