As promised, here is my rant...
So my phone rang a few mornings ago...it was a woman from my credit card company. At first I thought it was going to be a sales call but what she said she wanted was to confirm some purchases - as a security check. Again Im thinking this is a bogus phone call and that Im listening to some shmucko who thinks Im going to give her my Social Security number over the phone but I let her keep talking. She said she had some suspicious looking purchases to go over with me and asked if I was ready to hear them. At this point I realized this was an actual phone call and I assumed that she was calling about some of the large/unusual/etc. purchases Ive been making lately what with the end of December coming up and all.
Theyve called me before (i.e. when I bought my computer) so I was expecting her to list off some of the never-shopped-from-before websites Ive been shopping on...WRONG! She asked me if I had made purchases at 7-11 or Circle K that morning - ummmm, NO! We dont even HAVE those two stores here and even if we did I was still in my pjs happily enjoying my breakfast so I KNOW it wasnt me! FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!
So I let her know that those purchases were NOT made by me, that I am the ONLY card holder on the account, and that I still had my card in my possession. We then proceeded to shut down that card and arranged for me to receive a new card with a new account number and all that jazz. Im glad she called and Im not being held responsible for the charges blah blah blah, but what a MAJOR PAIN IN MY ASS!! I mean really, I know I do a lot of online shopping but whats the point in being extra cautious about it (i.e. checking for things like https:// vs. http:// and VeriSign) if this kind of bullshit happens anyway? I know it happened online because the card that was comprimsed is not one that I use out in public. FUCK! I hope the fuckwads that did this get cancer in every cell of their bodies and die slow, painful deaths - FUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The husband, of course, blames the fact that I use a PC instead of a Mac but that argument gets old...and fast...
