playing catch-up

Ok, here it is, as promised, a shiny new slice just for you... This past week Ive been busy catching up with the husband who, as you may have read, went to Portland on his birthday and got home on Tuesday. He hadnt even been home for 24 hours yet when I made him take me to Minneapolis to see a concert. I had a fabulous time but he, of course, hated it so weve agreed not to make him attend future concerts. Big band jazz with croon-erific vocals certainly isnt his cup of tea but when you combine that with the fact that we were sitting so close to the stage that the only person in front of me was Harry - it was definitely too loud for him. My poor husband spent most of the evening trying to discreetly plug his ears while waiting for the torture to end. I didnt see him much on Thursday as I sequestered myself in the bedroom so I could watch (FINALLY) the last fucking episode of FRIENDS. I am sooooooo glad its over that show should have died a long time ago. I know, I know, youre probably wondering why I kept watching even after it really started to suck. Well, I started watching that show when it first aired back in 1994 which means I was in the 8th grade. This show has been part of my weekly routine for years (including my entire adult life) and I figured I owed it to myself to see how it all turned out Id invested so many years before the sucking that I thought I should watch the sucking just to continue with my streak of having seen every single episode. Its not unlike that episode of Seinfeld where Elaine is desperate to get her sub card back because she had collected enough stamps to earn a free one. It wasnt that the subs were good and that she wanted another sandwich...it was just a matter of principal the sub belonged to her. Ok, so maybe me watching FRIENDS for 10 years isnt exactly the same as that but maybe it is a little bit...kinda sorta not really :-P Friday I spent the day being super domestic. I cleaned, did laundry, and I did some baking part of which including making Hello Kitty cookies. The cookies were supposed to be for an end-of-the-school-year music theory party (for the students and faculty relating to that course) on Saturday. However, my husband came home from school on Friday feeling sick so we ended up NOT going to the party and you-know-who has been eating lots of Hello Kitty cookies ever since. Yesterday I went out for lunch (and let it be known that the choice of restaurant was NOT left up to me) with my sister and her mother/my husbands mother-in-law (to celebrate the sisters birthday and mothers day). It was, much to my surprise, relatively painless - but that might just be because I had horrible expectations so there really wasnt any place to go but up. Post-lunch the sister and I dropped of her mother/my husbands mother-in-law and did some shopping which included things like filling up an entire grocery cart at a liquor store and purchasing new margarita glasses. Speaking of parental unitsyou may remember that my best friend was kind enough to send me some new parents. Well, not so long ago I decided to grow themheres what they look like: Another event of yesterday involved my husband dressing up in a suit (that photo was taken post-event so I assure you he was more together looking that this image leads you to believe) to attend a Congratulations! You got tenure! cocktail biz-baz at one of the country clubs here in town. The event was, of course, NOT open to significant others so, yet again, I prepared him for a night out without me. Not that any fun was had at last nights event - its more the being told I CANT go that made me wanna go. Justin was the youngest person there by at LEAST fifteen years (well, lets face ithow many people do YOU know that have been promoted to associate professor by the time theyre 33?) and he received a lovely gift. Who knew that investing six years of your life could earn you such fabulous rewards as this? I understand the gesture and the whole teacher/apple connection and all, but cmon man, a PAPERWEIGHT?? I hate to end this slice so abruptly but Im all cheesed out... |
