UPS and downs

Around 12:30pm on Monday the UPS guy stopped by in an attempt to delivery a package. No one was available to sign for it so he left a message on the machine saying that he had a package for me and would try again at the same time tomorrow a.k.a. Tuesday. Tuesday came and went without a word from the UPS guy and I KNEW I hadnt missed him because there was no message saying he had tried again and I waited in the house alllllllll day for him I didnt even take a shower that day until after Justin got back from school to take over my waiting for the UPS guy" duties. Finally on Wednesday around 1:00pm I called UPS and they did a search to find out where my package was and what had happened. The important part of the conversation went like this: him: Yes I see that the first attempt WAS made on Monday... me: Right, I got the message saying he was here and that hed try back at the same time on Tuesday but he never came... him: Im showing here that a second attempt WAS made on Tuesday... me: I find that hard to believe because I was home all day waiting for him and I never got a message, missed package slip, or anything... him: It says here the package was undeliverable because the recipient name didnt match the address... me: Excuse me? him: Yes, you moved me: Im pretty sure I didnt him: Well, your package is being held at the office there in Duluthwould be able to pick it up? me: Do I have a choice? him: No, not really...would you like me to give you the address and their customer service hours? me: Yes. him: The office is located at blah blah blah etc. and their package pick-up hours are Monday through Friday from 8-9am and 4-6pm Nice fucking hours huh? Anyway, we couldnt go that day because the car was being held overnight for repairs (that would be an entirely different slice that Im not going to write because cars are boring) so we went tonight to pick it up. We arrived at 3:45pm and you guessed it, the door was LOCKED and remained that way until exactly 4:00pm. I went into the tiny office with four other people that were all carrying LARGE boxes they needed to have sent out. I squeezed my body up to the counter, handed the clerk my photo ID, and informed her that I had a package I needed to pick up. She started looking through her spreadsheet of various package listings and then asked me, and when did you ask to have your package held? I informed her that I didnt but that the UPS guy was under the [false] impression that I had moved and that the dude from the 1-800 number told me to come here and get my package. After several minutes of flipping through a stack of papers, going to multiple rooms that were beyond my view, and asking a fellow employee she FINALLY found my package and I signed for it. Then I asked if I could have my photo ID backshe laughed and said, Oh! I suppose you want that huh? To which I dryly said, yes. It took her another 30-45 seconds to find it and I FINALLY had the package and got into the car. We got home and I excitedly opened the box because I could tell by the box that it was a wedding gift off of our gift registry. We discovered that it was from a friend of Justins and we thought it was really sweet of this friend to take the time to send us such a nice gift. What was this nice gift you ask? A box of broken CorningWare that we now have to drive to a store and return... |
